How much does a contractor website cost in New Jersey?

If you run a contracting business in New Jersey, you've probably gotten website quotes that range from a few hundred dollars to well over ten thousand. The gap is real, and it's confusing. This guide breaks down what a contractor website costs in 2026, what drives the price, and what you should expect to get at each level.

The short answer

Most New Jersey contractors spend somewhere between $800 and $5,000 on a professional website, plus a small yearly cost for the domain and hosting. Where you land depends on how many pages you need, whether the site is custom or template-based, and how much local SEO work is included.

Option 1: Do it yourself

Website builders like Wix, Squarespace and GoDaddy typically charge a monthly subscription, often in the range of $20 to $50 a month. The up-front cost is low, but you're paying with your time. Most contractors who go this route end up with a site that looks like a template, loads slowly on phones, and doesn't rank for anything beyond their business name.

Good for: a brand-new business that needs something online this week and has time to learn the tool.

Option 2: A freelancer

Freelancers commonly charge anywhere from about $500 to $3,000 for a small business site. Quality varies a lot. Some are excellent; others install a theme, drop in your logo and move on. Ask to see sites they built for other contractors, and ask who owns the site and domain when the project is done.

Option 3: An agency

Marketing agencies often start around $3,000 to $5,000 and can run past $15,000, frequently with a monthly retainer on top. You may get more services, but you're also paying for account managers, sales staff and overhead. Read the contract carefully. Some agencies keep ownership of the site, so if you leave, you start over.

What drives the price

  • Number of pages. A five-page site costs less than a site with a page for every service and every town.
  • Custom design vs. template. Custom design takes more work but looks like your business and loads faster.
  • Written content. Someone has to write the service and town pages. Good local content is a big part of ranking.
  • Local SEO setup. Titles, schema markup, sitemaps, Google Business Profile and Search Console setup.
  • Photos. Using your own phone photos is cheaper than a professional shoot, and often more convincing.

Ongoing costs to plan for

  • Domain name: usually around $15 to $25 a year.
  • Hosting: anywhere from free on modern static hosting to $30+ a month on managed platforms.
  • Updates: adding new projects, changing services, keeping everything working.

What you should get, at any price

Whatever you spend, don't accept a contractor website without these basics:

  • Your phone number as a tap-to-call link on every page
  • A quote form that goes straight to your email
  • A page for each main service
  • Your service area, ideally with pages for your main towns
  • Your NJ home improvement contractor registration number, if you need one
  • Real photos of your work
  • Fast loading on a phone
  • Full ownership of your site and domain
