12 things every contractor website needs to get more calls

A contractor website has one job: turn a stranger into a phone call. We run a contracting company ourselves, and these are the twelve things we make sure every contractor site has.

1. A phone number you can tap

Put your number at the top of every page as a tap-to-call link. On phones, keep a call button visible as visitors scroll.

2. A short quote form

Name, phone, email, what they need. That's it. Every extra field loses people.

3. Your best work above the fold

The first thing a visitor sees should be a finished job you're proud of, not a stock photo of a handshake.

4. A page for every service

"Drainage," "patios" and "kitchen remodels" are separate searches. Each deserves its own page with photos and a clear description.

5. A page for your main towns

A page for each town you really want work from helps you show up for searches like "general contractor Ridgewood NJ." Each page needs genuinely useful content, not a copy with the town name swapped.

6. Your license and insurance

If you're a New Jersey home improvement contractor, show your registration number. Mention your insurance. Homeowners check.

7. Real reviews

Show real reviews from Google, with names, and link to your Google profile so visitors can see more.

8. A project gallery

Group photos by service. Before-and-after pairs are especially convincing.

9. An about page with real people

People hire people. A photo of you, your crew and your trucks does more than any slogan.

10. Fast loading on a phone

Most visitors are on a phone, often on a job site or in a driveway. If the page takes too long, they go back and call the next contractor.

11. The technical basics for Google

Unique page titles and descriptions, proper headings, schema markup that tells Google your business details, a sitemap, and a connection to Google Search Console.

12. Your name, number and area, matching everywhere

Your website, Google Business Profile and directory listings should all show the same business name, phone number and service area.

How does your site measure up?

If your site is missing more than a few of these, it's probably costing you calls. Every site we build covers all twelve. See our contractor website design or get a free quote.
